If you’re like a lot of people, you get your news throughout the day by picking up your smartphone. For a lot of Facebook’s 1.5 billion users, the social media giant is the go-to site for news.
In fact, earlier this year we told you about Instant Articles. Facebook started working with publishers who are now sending articles directly to Facebook, so you don’t have to click on a news story link, and hope the site opens up in a timely manner.
Now, Facebook is about to launch a new news app to make it even easier to get up to speed on what’s going on around the world. It’s a standalone app called Notify and it could be out as early as next week.
Facebook isn’t dishing on details just yet, but multiple sources that have seen it say it’ll be comparable to Twitter. On the app, Facebook and partner publications like CNN, Vogue, Mashable, the Washington Post and others will post breaking news alerts.
These alerts will be about 100 characters long, along with a link to the publication’s full story.
Facebook is expected to release Notify next week. This is what it reportedly will look like.
