Twitter is now WAY better at showing you the most interesting stuff

Twitter is a great way to keep up on up-to-the-minute news and insights from reporters, celebrities and brands, as its more than 300 million users can attest. But if you follow quite a few people, the good stuff you’re looking for is often drowned out by the stream of tweets from people announcing what they had for breakfast or how bad traffic was during their morning commute.

Plus, most of us don’t have time to constantly watch our Twitter feed, and if you miss something, you may never see it. Twitter’s looking to fix that with its Highlights feature on Android phones (sorry, no iOS release thus far, though Twitter says it’s considering expanding Highlights to other platforms).

Highlights promises to give you a recap “of the best tweets for you” with regular push notifications. The app will gauge how often to send you push notifications by how often you follow the Highlights link in the notification.

The company explained how it works on its blog: “To create your Highlights, we look at things like the accounts and conversations that are popular among people you follow, Tweets from people you’re closely tied to, topics and events that are trending in your area or within your network, and people that are popular or trending among people you follow.”

If you’re using the Twitter app on your Android, Highlights should be automatically enabled. If it’s not working for you, tap the three-dot icon in the app, then go to Settings. From Settings, choose your account, then click Mobile Notifications, and you’ll see the option for Highlights.
