Snapchat now lets you suggest accounts for your friends to follow

Amid all the hype surrounding Snapchat’s Memories feature, another useful option launched alongside it has been relegated to the sidelines.

The new “suggest” function lets you recommend accounts of your choice to other friends, sharing their details with your followers in the process. For an app that has thus far made it inexplicably hard to find new and interesting people to follow, this is a godsend.

The new feature is also extremely easy to use. All you have to do in order to share an account is to hold down someone’s name (whether in the chat or stories section) and a bio pop-up appears, with their snapcode on the top, and the new suggest icon (in the shape of a blue arrow) at the bottom right. Simply tap that button and you will be able to share the selected account with as many people as you wish in your contact list. On the recipient’s end, they will receive a notification from Snapchat, and will see the recommendation in the chat interface, where they will have the option to add the recommended account. The function has been confirmed as new by Snapchat, reports TechCrunch.

Aside from helping you introduce your friends to each other on the app, the suggest function is a great tool for those who mainly share stories, and are looking for wider exposure. In the past, the only way this was achievable was by sharing your snapcode, or Snapchat URL, on other social networks — although some people got pretty creative about it offline.

Unless Snapchat introduces even more account-sharing tools, the only way to extend your following is organically, which brands (and users) have managed to do with little to no help from the app itself. Celebs, on the other hand, have it easier thanks to the “official” status they are granted by Snapchat, making the likes of Kim Kardashian, and Jimmy Fallon easy to find via the “Add Username” section. The suggest tool should make the organic process a tad bit easier for the rest of the app’s 150 million users.
